Heather Simmons graduated from the University of Redlands in May 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Anthropology and a minor in Spanish. While at the University of Redlands, Heather studied abroad with the School for International Training (SIT) in Nicaragua and traveled to Honduras and El Salvador. In Nicaragua she completed research with the women’s revolutionary organization Asociación de Mujeres Nicaragüenses Luisa Amanda Espinoza (AMNLAE) in preparation for her honor’s thesis. Heather completed her thesis entitled, “Examining Nicaraguan Feminisms: Contradictions, Complexities and Conversation” in May 2008 and was awarded Departmental Honors in Sociology. Heather was also President of her sisterhood, Wadada Wa Rangi Wengi (WRW), which she credits with fueling her enthusiasm for equal education and community outreach.
Heather speaks Spanish and some Italian. She began her Master of Arts in Human Behavior through National University's College of Letters and Sciences in September of 2009 and plans to complete all of her courses online. Heather has been with the National University System since June 2008.
